Way too much testosterone. Way too much of what we already have too much of in movies these days. I just thought the entire film had a strange, hyper-stylized vibe that just struck me as unique and not cut from the usual cloth. I am not well versed in Visconti's body of work (The Leopard is the only film of his that I've seen and it was 10 years ago at least) so I can't make some of the comparisons that other critics have been making between his work and I Am Love. But what I will say is that I'm interested in checking out some more of Visconti's work, and also finding out more about Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love's director). Need to do some Netflixing right now I think...

Also, my full review will be posted soon, but as I expected, Unstoppable was a tour de force for Tony Scott. FUCKING AWESOME.Actionmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16513109522731313470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765008161115599620.post-49179385444116169452010-11-14T17:13:01.150-08:002010-11-14T17:13:01.150-08:00Wondering why you thought "I am Love" wa...Wondering why you thought "I am Love" was strange? I saw it in theaters, and tho it was awhile ago, I didn't think it terribly strange. A lyrical character study, with no neat conclusion to the story...left me thinking.... but not that it was strange....giggleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13173558660571799919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765008161115599620.post-21483277131060915302010-11-12T20:55:32.418-08:002010-11-12T20:55:32.418-08:00Yes, "Skyline" was an absolute charmer.

Really, really enjoyed it.

And of course, can't wait for Unstoppable.Actionmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16513109522731313470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765008161115599620.post-88163305185552960322010-11-12T16:29:35.298-08:002010-11-12T16:29:35.298-08:00I struggled through "Skyline" earlier th...I struggled through "Skyline" earlier this afternoon. Other than a bizarrely brilliant final few minutes, it was absolutely atrocious, Nick. No sense of pacing, pretty terrible special effects, and the climactic action sequence is shown largely through a telescope and a TV screen (don't ask). Terrible, terrible, terrible. Easily one of the year's worst.

"Unstoppable," though, is awesome. I saw it almost immediately afterward and it more than cleansed my palate. It's typical Tony Scott: meaty, deceptively simple, no-nonsense, terrific performances. The visual style is one of the most indelible of the year. And thank God we actually are aware at all times of what's going on. Great stuff. Can't wait for your thoughts on Sunday (or whenever you type them up).Joelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00781388117830165390noreply@blogger.com
