MOVIES FOR THE WEEKEND

I hadn't been all that excited for Rise of the Planet of the Apes (why not just call it Rise of the Apes?) but due to the alarmingly good-to-great reviews, I'm now quite interested -- I'll likely see it this Sunday.

The Change-Up looks extremely crude and mildly amusing but I'll wait for the Blu Ray -- it's been killed by critics and time is precious...

From Netflix is the creepy sounding internet-stalker drama Trust, which Roger Ebert was raving about on his show a few weeks ago...

It's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" in the style of the original 1968 film's many sequels (e.g. "Battle of the Planet of the Apes" or "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes"). I'm seeing it today with a couple friends, and I'm stoked.

On DVD, I'm watching "Limitless" and "Insidious." There's also a third movie, but...dammit, I can't remember what it is.

I never did realize that until now...makes sense despite the inherent clunkiness of the title.

Limitless was an awesome ode to the wonderful powers of LSD and I have yet to see Insidious.

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a total triumph. Right there with "Super 8" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" as one of the summer's best spectacles.
