MOVIES FOR THE WEEKEND

Avatar opens today. I'll be seeing it. But not this weekend.

Still have Ballast from Netflix kicking around the apartment.

Ok. I'm not a big fan of Jimmy Cameron...but he was on both Tavis Smiley and Charlie Rose last night.... He was moderatley likeable... I could be swayed NOT to boycott the movie.... My kids want to see it sooooooooo bad. I'm not gonna relish the obnoxoius crowds....

"Avatar" was mindblowing. In every single way possible. Is the story innovative? Eh, perhaps not. But the story and characters and all that are not the point. The point is the visual effects.

Nick, I know that you think that the visual effects in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" are the benchmark thus far, but it ain't got nothin' on "Avatar." NOTHING. The visual effects are completely and totally seamless, but not in the way that "Transformers" is. My two friends and I began to believe that the world we were seeing was real, but not specifically "realistic." It's far deeper than that. Cameron has created a full universe, not fully explored yet, but intrinsically in existence at all times. Apparently there is enough material for two sequels and I really hope so.

When you see it, make damn sure that it's in 3-D. I don't like 3-D normally, but this film is completely immersive in the process.
