THE LAST REVIEWS OF THE YEAR

The last three films from 2007 that I have yet to fully review are THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY (****), SWEENEY TODD (****), and THERE WILL BE BLOOD (****). I will also have a mini-reivew for RATATOUILLE (****) coming up soon. And I still have yet to see CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, THE KITE RUNNER and I AM LEGEND, so there will be some stuff on those as well.

I presume you are Nick of Nick's Pix. You've got to put together a MUST SEE list for those of us who don't get out much. Have you seen Freaks? Todd Brownings film still makes the skin crawl.

Uncle Fred:

I posted at the end of last month a piece called 50 MOVIES TO SEE BEFORE YOU'RE 30. It's a listing of films that I am going to be writing about over the next year, in addition to all of the current releases that I see. I will re-post the list for you now, and I will add some new ideas. Check the blog soon.

And yes...saw FREAKS...it's pretty fucked up still to this day.

looking forward to seeing your review of diving bell... we saw it yesterday & thought it was SO well done. even better, we saw it in a teeny (45-person) screening room in an artsy theater here in brookline -- you'll have to come up & visit it once you move back east.

Look for my review of Diving Bell sometime this week. Just watched it for the second time (wanted to do that before writing my full review). It's a masterwork; the best film of 2007.

I've just come back from a critics' screening of Sweeney (remember you are blessed in the States, not having to wait ages to see films - sometimes even our early critic screenings are after your great unwashed release dates, dammit). Anyway it's a great film. I've made an interesting aside re great adaptations on my site if you'd care to look. otherwise have fun.
