TOMORROW ON DVD

One of the best films of 2007 (my personal #2), THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD hits dvd tomorrow. Go buy it. It's a masterpiece of filmmaking and storytelling.
Here's the link to my original review:

I saw "Assassination" in a really broken down old theater on a 20-degree day. The auditorium was freezing and if my generally hot-natured self is cold, it's frickin' cold.

In retrospect, I think that kind of added to the experience.

A great film that was terribly distributed, just completely flushed down the shitter.

There's so much to recommend about this film. I personally felt it played like a film that the studio screwed with. There were pacing problems for me. (not to say i found it too slow. Just that i found it to be the product of fighting parents) I'd love to see the orginal cut. That said, the last 15minutes is fucking STUNNING. Perhaps reviewing this on DVD tomorrow will play better than my original, perfectly good but flawed first time.

Glad to see there is some Jesse James love out there.

It's exclusion from the top categories at this year's Acadey Awards is disgraceful.

I found JJ to be a throwback to the kind of films that J Ford made. Elegant. Simple. Beautiful. Paced for another generation. I agree, it's a shame no one saw the damn thing.
