We saw this trailer before Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs last weekend and it knocked our socks off. Zemeckis, yet again an innovator, looking like he's delivered his second X-mas classic.
Let's take a classic story and 3D-it up with gratuitous scenes of visceral embellishment in order to justify making this thing and releasing it in IMAX.
This is why I am adamantly opposed to the 3D format...
I'm all for 3-D when it's done right and when it's used to help tell the story, and not just be the only story worth telling.
What Zemeckis did with Polar Express 3-D is enough for me to confidently state that he knows how to make a wonderful holiday movie for the entire family and showcase new technological breakthroughs that are truly something special.
A Christmas Carol is a timeless story, has been done any number of times in the past, so I'm looking forward to a fresh take on this classic material.

Hoping that this will be more "The Polar Express" (transcendent) than "Beowulf" (self-indulgent). Can't wait.
Me too. I think it will be.
Sorry, action -- I can't stand this.
