MOVIES FOR THE WEEKEND

The Informant! is a must see; sometime over the next few days.

I'll also be checking out Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3-D.

Jennifer's Body will be a Netflix in a few short months.

Speaking of Netflix, I'm in disc transition right now, so nothing new for the weekend. Just watched the 80's classic Peggy Sue Got Married last night. Cute flick.

I'll probably hit up Blockbuster at some point over the weekend; I'd like to rent that Disney nature doc Earth on Blu Ray.

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" tonight and yes, in 3-D, lol. I've heard that it's the best use of it in a while, so I can't ignore that.

"The Informant!" on Sunday, I'm thinking. Can't wait. Ebert's review is glowing.

I saw both of them tonight, actually. I didn't see "Cloudy" in 3-D, but it works beautifully in 2-D, to tell you the truth. And it's one of the most visually astounding animated films I've ever seen. It's also satirical, intelligent, and perfect for both kids and adults. I loved every second of it.

"The Informant!" is a real knockout from everyone involved. Sadly, I don't think Matt Damon is going anywhere near the Oscars with his role, but make no mistake that I think he deserves a nod. He is VERY strong in the role. The cinematography is solid, the writing is acerbic, and the best way I can explain it is that it's as if Wes Anderson wrote and directed "The Insider," a film this no doubt has drawn comparisons to, and for good reason. It's just as complex and involving, while also being flat-out hilarious. It doesn't replace Mann's film but joins it as a tonally opposite double feature.
