PROMISING

Looks highlarious. And I love Kristen Wiig -- she's one of the funniest people on the planet. And I also love that this is a hard-R. It also seems that Val Kilmer is really, really in on the joke. Looks like a fun time...

Don't wanna see this. At all. But I will. Oh well. I haven't so much as chuckled at one trailer yet. But hey, to each his own, lol.

What'd you think of "Iron Man 2"? I saw it again on Sunday and still hold the opinion of it being very, very flawed.

I enjoyed Iron Man 2 about as much as I enjoyed the first Iron Man. They aren't perfect films but I like the wit that Favreau and his writers have brought to these movies, and I thought the Monaco sequence was outstanding. I agree that the film(s) have their flaws, but overall, I am a fan. I'll be doing a little write up re: IM2 soon.

As far as MacGruber goes, I think it looks extremely funny, and from what I have heard, it's a filthy-dirty movie so the best bits won't be able to be included in the trailers.

Oh, DEFINITELY agree with you on the Monaco sequence. In fact, for me at least, it was far superior to anything else in the movie, and I'll even go so far as to say that it'll be tough to beat in terms of sheer tension-building of one sequence for the rest of the summer. I was on the edge of my seat during that scene in ways I wasn't for any other scene in the movie, which I believe suffered from lack of any sort of character nuances (something the first film had in spades). Almost all of the performances were excellent, with the exception of Cheadle and Johansson. But my review is over at my blog (strangely, the first review of the year...no idea why).

Yeah, good point about "MacGruber." The star power is excellent, and it could be this year's "Tropic Thunder." No doubt I think it COULD be hilarious, but the trailers are horrible. Good feedback from the crix, which I didn't suspect to happen at all. We shall see. Having finally seen "Borat" recently (and loving every fucking second of it) has opened my eyes to how truly funny extremely hard-R comedies really are.

I have to go with Joel on this one (not that anyone asked me). The trailers are not compelling me to see MacGruber at all. That being said I laughed out loud during Hot Tub Time Machine so maybe this is the year that I finally start getting these type of movies.

Nick - side note - are you watching The Pacific at all?

Have faith in the people behind Macgruber -- the early reviews and advance buzz are very positive...

Sara -- yes -- The Pacific is appointment television every Sunday night. It's fucking astounding. I go to bed each night after watching it thanking my lucky stars that I never had to see combat like that in my lifetime. It's stirring, it's emotional, and it's extremely visceral. To say that I am a fan would be an understatement. Are you watching/enjoying?

Nick - Yes, watched, loved and plan to buy when it's available. I totally agree with your comments, it makes me happy to know that not everything on television is total garbage.
