What a downer this movie was.... I hadn't read the book beforehand, though was curious to read it. Until I saw the movie. Bleak. Very bleak. Even with the hopeful ending I didn't buy.
You didn't buy the ending?! How else was it supposed to end?
I am a ginormous fan of this film and the book (read it after I saw the film). Felt it was a great adaptation.
I do agree with you in that it's a very dark, depressing, and bleak film. I guess that's why I liked it soo much. Plus -- I'm a sucker for "end-of-the-world" scenarios.
