MOVIES FOR THE WEEKEND

I'll be seeing the Coen brothers film, A Serious Man, on Sunday afternoon. As with any previous Coen film, it's an event.

From Netflix I've got the stony looking Land of the Lost (don't hate me, Joel...), and I'll be picking up a few other titles from Blockbuster, potentially including Management, Wolverine, Drag Me To Hell, and a few others. It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow so my plan is to have a DVD marathon.

LOL I don't hate YOU, Nick. It's the movie that's the cinematic equivalent to a steaming puddle of turtle pee. I can't wait to hear your thoughts.

As for theaters, I'm not entirely sure when "A Serious Man" opens for me, but I'll be seeing it as soon as it does. I'm seeing "Amelia" later on today but not looking forward to it at all, and "Astro Boy" late tonight with my nephews.

Well, "Amelia" was pretty much one of the most boring films of the year. C-. Good for a nap around the middle section. Last ten minutes showed what it could've been, but the other 100 were dull as all get out. And Hilary Swank just wasn't good. At all.

Sin Nombre??????

A quiet film I saw a while ago, maybe you would like for a change of pace..... "Everlasting Moments"

Giggles -- I actually rented Sin Nombre...looking forward

Everlasting Moments, eg? I'll have to check into that one...

Joel -- Amelia looks plain and dry -- not surprised to hear your reaction.

Nick, this is utterly unrelated, but I have to share:

My friend and I are currently writing an ensemble musical. Yes, a musical. But it's also told out of order. The plot: It follows the murder of a college girl. I'm taking hints from "Pulp Fiction" and "Fargo" in how we learn everything about the murder (the opening scene is the dumping of the body, then we learn the identity of the victim, etc.), then it leads up to a gloriously violent musical number and a Twist (wouldn't dare give that away).

But here's the catch (some would say gimmick): It's all set to music released in the last few years by artists that everyone knows or at least has heard of, from Coldplay to The Killers to Green Day to Arcade Fire.

I dunno if it'll work, but we're gonna do it. :)

Sounds very interesting...did you ever see Repo, that horror/musical from the Saw director?

Actually, no, but I REALLY wanted to. I'm one of those crazy "Saw" defenders. lol. I do kinda wish that they would've stopped at "Saw III" (which was basically a polarizing masterpiece), since, you know, the story ended there and everything.
