GERMAN POSTER: THE HAPPENING
I am hearing a lot of mixed buzz on M. Night's latest, THE HAPPENING, which hits theaters on Friday, June 13th (ha-ha). This is the first M. Night thriller to get an R-rating. I've been a fan ever since THE SIXTH SENSE. My favorite film of his is still UNBREAKABLE. I liked SIGNS a lot as well. THE VILLAGE was clever but flawed. LADY IN THE WATER was one of the worst movies I've seen this decade (possibly ever). I'm hoping that THE HAPPENING is a nasty thriller that delivers the goods...we'll see...but I do like this German poster quite a bit.

When Night is on, there are few directors I love more. He had three masterpieces in a row with The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable (my favorite as well), and Signs. The Village was flawed but had great great stuff in it, I still can't make up my mind exactly how I feel about that one. And 'Lady in the Water' was just a bizarre misfire. Really bad. I saw it in theaters twice because I couldn't believe how bad it seemed the first time and I thought maybe it was just me. Anyway I'm praying that this is a return to form but I'm a bit worried. The concept sounds lame and the title is lame and the star is lame.
Really? I think the idea is terrific. The casting doesn't bother me either. The title is a bit generic but I am rooting for this flick to be nasty fun.

I don't know...it's the worst title of any of his movies. I'm not a big Mark Wahlberg fan. He's ok, but he's no Mel Gibson, or Bruce Willis, or Paul Giamatti or Bryce Dallas Howard for that matter. I don't know much about the concept but I know it's some sort of eco-thriller...I'm sure it will be cooler than it sounds. I have visions of people being attacked by trees or something. The PC-ness of the concept worries me a bit.
You probably know more about the concept than I do. I'm avoiding all the trailers and everything. I read the ending to The Village online and I will not let that happen again...just realized I don't really know who's in this other than Wahlberg, I'm gonna go see who else is in it.
As far as I know, it's an "eco-thriller" of sorts; the environment unleashes a toxin that makes people kill themselves.
I like Wahlberg most of the time. Though you're right, he's no Gibson or Willis.
I like the fact that The Happening is rated R.
