FINAL: THE BEST OF 2008

I saw 80 movies from 2008. That's 30 less than 2007. Contrary to what some have said, I don't think this year has been a bad year for cinema. Granted, it's not anywhere near as accomplished, overall, as last year, but there have been any number of excellent movies, some small, some big, and many very unqiue. What follows are my final rankings for the 80 movies from 2008 that I took in. I will also be posting a mini-recap of my top 20 very soon. So glad to see you have "Gran Torino" in the top ten, but I personally can't say that I was moved more by it than by "Changeling." Both are extremely effective, but "Gran Torino" ultimately slipped out of my top ten.

I saw 65 movies from '08. I found it an incredibly good year, but like you said, nowhere near '07 and certainly not '06.

You might find this relieving: I watched "Snow Angels" a couple days ago. Fascinating, enthralling stuff. Might have made my top ten. So would have "Pineapple Express." Maybe a tie, being the same director and all.

I'm gonna watch your four star and 3.5-star films next summer (those I missed out on).

All in all, good list.
