MORE FROM KENNY F'ING POWERS

Yesterday, HBO officially greenlit a second season (8 episodes) of Jody Hill, Ben Best, and Danny McBride's hilarious comedy Eastbound and Down. This is amazing news for everyone who loved this uniquely twisted series focusing on a delusional, down-and-out ex-MLB pitcher. If you missed the show on its initial run, it's probably available via HBO ON DEMAND and the DVD set should be out soon. McBride is one off my favorite on-screen comedians currently working, and I find the darkly humourous tone that Hill and his team clearly love working in to be nothing short of hysterical. This is not a show for everyone; some people will find it too mean and nasty and juvenille, with characters who aren't easily sympathetic. Not me. I think it's brilliantly subversive. I just hope that everyone is able to bring the same level of creativity to the upcoming season. The fact that the show ended on such a perfect note in its finale scares me a bit. I really hope the second batch of episodes is as entertaining as the first.

I guess you could say that I'm a child of the same type of humor. I loved Dumb and Dumber growing up. Loved its subversive, mean-spirited brand of comedy that kind of was second string to the sweeter stuff that was more prevalent. But, really, the Farrelly Brothers make really dark comedies, which is why I loved Me Myself and Irene when no one else did.

It's the same thing with movies like Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express. They're sometimes cruelly funny. It's why I wanna see Observe & Report and Bruno (the red-band trailer for this is freakin' hysterical). It's the reason I'm watching Borat here in a few weeks It's why I faithfully tune in to the Onion News Network videos and have taken to watching Extras online anytime I can.

I LOVE this type of off-color humor. I may need to start watching Eastbound & Down on Hulu very soon. Thanks for the recommendation. This, coupled with so many other critics raving about it, makes me wonder why I haven't started already.

I hadn't heard this until I saw it here! Happy to say the least.

Have watched the first season twice now, and it only gets better.

I am still trying to work "you have clothes like a fuckin' dickhead" into as many conversations as possible.
