Very nice list.

Let's see....I'd bump Apocalypse Now right up to #1. I've seen the three variations of it (the theatrical, the Redux, and the 4 hour plus workprint) and they are all facinating in their own right.

Also I'd find some room in there for The Bridge on the River Kwai, which is a truly amazing film.

I'd drop The Deer Hunter alltogether. I just find it to be a hugely overrated borefest. It's got some solid performances to be sure, but overall I find it more than a little silly.

Very happy to see Das Boot in there. A fantastic film that also has several versions of variable length out there.

Good stuff!!

For me, Black HAwk Down is the best combat movie ever made. No other director has put you in the thick of battle the way Ridley Scott did in BHD. I saw the film 10times theatrically. I also worked on it. So, there's a bit of bias in there.

Three Kings almost made my list.

Kwai made a different list that will be posted at a later date...

The Deer Hunter, for me, is a phenomenal movie. It's two movies in one! I loved that film, have seen in about 5 times or so, and it's stained in my memory. Cimino had it all...

Das Boot is brilliant. I had the good fortune to see the 4 hour directors cut on this big screen with my dad back in high school. I still remember sitting in that theater.

Yeah, I have watched The Deer Hunter three times (mostly to enjoy DeNiro and Walken) but it just fails to compel me with its story every time.

Interestingly (or not) there were quite a few scenes for that movie shot in Mingo Junction, which is about 10 minuets from where I sit at the moment.

Nothing but love here for Black Hawk Down. Got the three disc set and have enjoyed every aspect of that film many times.

Das Boot on the big screen would be sweet.

For my money Enemy at the Gates is right up there.

I agree with most on the list but The Thin Red Line just didn't do it for me. It had a lot of material to work with but didn't bother to use it.

Enemy at the Gates was indeed fantastic and is very underrated. It almost made my list.

However, The Thin Red Line was, for me at least, one of the best movies of all-time. I loved that film. I hope that one day Criterion gets the rights to the rumored six-hour cut of the film and puts out a sick special edition. The bare-bones DVD release is a total disgrace.

You forgot one; Three Kings.
