Haven't seen many Westerns. See, my movie upbringing was majorly influenced by my father and although he watched many Westerns when he was young, he never brought them down to me. So...haven't seen as many as, say, Kris from InContention (his favorite genre).

But I can't argue that, out of the few I've seen, Assassination is the best. One of the most visually remarkable and stunning motion pictures of the decade. Absolutely mind-blowing cinematography. And the movie itself was absolutely astonishing. Casey Affleck's performance was one of vulnerability and near-homosexual obsession--a perfect performance and 2007's finest acting turn.

I love Westerns. I used to hate them but I came around on the genre in college. I took a fantastic class -- "The American Western" -- and it really opened my eyes to the genre as a whole.

Ron Howard's The Missing over

Unforgiven
Open Range
The Magnificent Seven
The Getaway (as much a western as Alfredo Garcia)?

Check out The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. A John Huston, Paul Newman collaboration that's brilliant.
