MASSIVE

By all accounts thus far, Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is going to make the first movie look like a fuckin' student film, and make mince meat of the rest of the summer competition. Seriously...you're on another planet if this trailer doesn't do it for you:

Consider me on another planet. The fact that Linkin Park is going to contribute to the score didn't sweeten it for me AT ALL.

Would much rather see "Terminator:Salvation" or better yet....

The only thing that I care about with these movies is the flawless CGI spectacle of fighting robot scenes. That's it. Megan Fox doesn't hurt, but other than the action, I have no real expectations. I did like the Linkin Park song in Miami Vice, though. But overall -- yes -- I agree with you -- they suck.

Salvation looks better than I ever expected, but McG couldn't hold Bay's jockstrap. District 9 does look cool. Did you see the director's short film? It's incredible.

I'm no fan of McG, I assure you. But something about the Terminator thing just strikes me more.

I find it hard to get through Bay's attempts at humor and any non-action material, but then I end up not really getting too invested in the action, either. The CGI is normally fantastic, but I just don't care for the way he stages his scenes. But I'm a very alone, very loud minority. hahahaa

I need to track down that short. District 9 looks great.

But basically, the thing all these films have in common is that they're Shit To See Until Avatar Comes Out

I fear a serious screw-over of the Terminator franchise, even if as a film Salvation will be great. But it's PG-13 (suffers from Die Hard Syndrome, if you will) which means the vision that Cameron and Mostow respectively crafted and continued will be marred. The movie's gonna kick ass, but I'd like an R rating to go with my apocalyptic robot/human battle.

Transformers will be fucking amazing. I think that Star Trek could be a BETTER movie, but I doubt pure popcorn pleasure will be found in anything other than Transformers. It'll be the most fun one's had at the theaters this summer, but, uh, even Nick has to admit that it won't be the smartest tool in the shed. Bay thrives on the purest and most angelic form of dumb fun ever. It's what made Transformers work wonders, even with bad acting and worse dialogue. With Bay's films, those things don't matter at all, not even one bit. I. Am. Stoked.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying....the action part is what leaves me the most cold. They just don't do it for me. Oh well...

If Salvation sucks, which it might, I will take alternative delight in trying to guess which scene was being shot when Christian Bale flew off the handle. It's a game!

(Die Hard with a Vengeance was absolutely terrible)

I think Die Hard With Avengance is incredible, one of the best pure-action movies ever made. The ending got dragged out too much, but that movie delivered in a serious way. I love the gritty, hand-held, clearly-on-location cinematography, the banter between Willis and Jackson was terrific, and Irons was classy as fuck as the bad guy. Loved that film.

I agree with you, Joel. Bay doesn't know shit about drama or comedy or anything else other than how to stage destruction. That's why he's the PERFECT choice to direct the Transformers movies. I expect a loud, dumb-as-rocks, but massively entertaining film.

I really hope T4 is awesome.

Oops, my mistake....I meant "Live Free or Die Hard". That's the one I hated, not "Die Hard w/ a Vengeance" which I liked just fine.

I also thought Live Free or Die Hard was a joke.
