If you missed this summer's hilarious comedy KNOCKED UP, definitely check it out on dvd. I think it's one of the best Hollywood comedies in years and one of the best movies of the year overall. Line for line, joke for joke, no movie has been as funny or as smart as KNOCKED UP in a while. Judd Apatow is seriously on a roll at the moment. I was a big fan of his last directorial outing, THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, but KNOCKED UP is even better. If you don't know the premise, it's simple: shlubby Seth Rogen gets the extra-hot Katherine Heigel pregnant after a drunken one-night stand. He's the total opposite of her; she couldn't be any different than him. What follows is an extremely funny and very honest comedy about growing up, taking responsibility for your actions, and coming to terms with your life changing drastically in every way, shape or form. Seth Rogen is dynamite in the lead role, and Heigel, who's claim to fame has been her work on GREY'S ANATOMY, is sexy and sweet and quite funny in her own right. The amazing supporting cast of Apatow regulars (Paul Rudd is especially funny) kill every line they're given, and all of the scenes with Rogen and his pot-smoking, sexual-obscenity spouting buddies are comedy gold. The DVD has a lot of very good special features so check them all out after watching the feature. Never resorting to cheap or stupid or obvious humor and maintaining a consistent comedic tone all throughout, KNOCKED UP is a riot from begining to end.
